There is so much choice when it comes to feeding our dogs that it can be difficult to decide what to feed at all. From dry kibble and raw to wet and cooked the choice is huge. There’s debate after debate over what’s right and what’s wrong but one thing I think we can all get along with is adding FRESH to the bowl regardless of what else is in there with it.

Research shows that adding fresh foods to your dogs diet can increase your dogs lifespan and chance of a healthy life and reduces your dogs carbohydrate intake if given just one fresh food day a week. Who wouldn’t want their dog to have a long, healthy life right!!

Another benefit for our dogs is the variety fresh foods can give to the diet. I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t want to eat a variation of the same thing every day. I mean who wants a bag of people food day after day!! There is so much that you can add with most of it being foods you’ll be eating during the week anyway so its easily accessible and ready to share with your dog. Below is a super simple recipe to have a go at and I’m sure once you’ve started adding in fresh foods to your dogs diet and seen how easy it is you’ll soon start coming up with your own mixes.

Simple veggie Blend

There are no exact measurements here you just make what you need its all about being flexible. This recipe contains bone broth but this can be replaced with water.

  • Cabbage
  • Carrot
  • Spinach
  • Coconut oil (optional)
  • Bone Broth (optional, can use water instead)

Depending on what kitchen gadgets you’ve got either chop the Cabbage and Carrots or put these into a blender straight away with the spinach and optional coconut oil and bone broth. If not using bone broth add water to make the mixture runny enough to pour.

If only making small batches keep in the fridge and use as needed otherwise you can freeze them in ice cube trays and get them out of the freezer when needed. I’ve forgotten to get them out of the freezer to defrost too many times to mention and my dogs will now happily eat them frozen too.

Try adding small amounts first if your dogs aren’t used to too much variety and have fun with this. See what they like best but please check before you give them fresh foods that you’re giving them something that is dog safe.
